The Belle Plaine High School boys’ golf team opened the 2017 season by leaping into a pool of 18 teams at the 18-team Hayfield Invitational Saturday. The Tigers finished in 11th place.
Northfield took first with a team score of 328, one stroke ahead of Stewartville. Rounding out the field were Hibbing (343), Blooming Prairie (358), La Crescent (369), Albert Lea (381), Rushford-Peterson (382), Hayfield (386), Austin (390), St. Anthony (392), Belle Plaine (408), Pine Island (415), Southland (417), Kenyon-Wanamingo (430), GHEC-Truman (446), Triton (448), GMLO (567) and La Crosse Logan (724).
Nick Lechtenberg of Stewartville was the individual medalist with a score 77. Nate Stevens of Northfield was second with 78.
Cole Haller had Belle Plaine’s best score at 94. Also on the course for the Tigers and their scores were Jake Pingalore (102), Alex Meger (104), Jasper Bartels (108), John Franck (115) and Nick Morrison (118).
