Disease or Symptom
A friend began a conversation by naming the presidential candidates after unpleasant diseases. I don't think the candidates are a disease. I think they are a symptom of the of the disease we are suffering from.
The country and this community are suffering from a broken heart. The causes are many and each of us has a slightly different list. We are plagued with fear of the economy, the stranger, the future and mostly the fear of each other.
Our choice this election is whether our heart has been broken apart and we vote out of fear. Or has our heart been broken open to recognize hope in ourselves, our neighbor, our country. The cure for a broken heart in a democracy is citizenship. Exercise your citizenship. Vote in this election. Just the act of voting will begin to heal the broken heart of our community.
