Marian Thiewes, 98, of Belle Plaine passed away on March 26, 2017 at Kingsway Retirement Living in Belle Plaine.  
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 4 at Our Lady of the Prairie Catholic Church in Belle Plaine. Fr. Brian Lynch will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to Mass at the church. Interment will be in Ft. Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis.
Marian was born and raised in Winona and was active in the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart where she was awarded the Bishop’s Medal and commendation from Bishop Harrigan. Marian was active as a lector, Communion Minister and served on the Cathedral’s liturgy committee. Her contributions extended to the St. Anne’s Health Care Outreach, the Music Guild, Council of Catholic Women, and Serra Club.
Marian resided in her home for 50 years and then moved into the Kensington Apartments in Winona. In 2009, at the age of 90, she moved to Belle Plaine.  
She enjoyed playing bridge, gardening, participating in faith groups and sewing.
She is survived by her sons, Ronald (Barb) of Kansas City, MO, Harold (Ann) of Mankato, and  James (Patricia) of Chaska; grandchildren, Joe Thiewes, Katie (Christian) Miller, Philip (Antoinette) Thiewes, Marybeth (Kyle) Mulkey, Micah Stradcutter, Eric (Jennifer) Thiewes and Emily (Chris) Olson; great-grandchildren, Tyler, Veronica, Lauren, Eve, Jace, Lily, Penelope, Lorenzo and another blessing due this May; sisters, Elayne Fischer and Betty Klopatek of Tamarac, FL; sister-in-law, Lois Fischer of Red Wing; and many other nephews and nieces.  
Marian is preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Anna Fischer; husband, Harold; brothers, Carl Fischer and Anthony Fischer; sister, Gertrude; brother-in-law, Gene Klopatek; and sisters-in-law, Ruth Fischer and Ruth Thiewes.
Memorials are preferred to Our Lady of the Prairie (Belle Plaine), Kingsway Retirement Living (Belle Plaine),or Cathedral of the Sacred Heart (Winona).
