Clarissa Caola’s car rolled into the median between the north and southbound lanes of Highway 169 after it was hit by a SUV heading south on Highway 169 Friday around 3 p.m. Caola was heading east off Park Boulevard when she was hit. She’s in satisfactory condition at Hennepin County Medical Center

A Jordan woman and 2011 Belle Plaine High School graduate, Clarissa Caola was in satisfactory condition yesterday at Hennepin County Medical Center after she was seriously injured in a crash at the intersection of Highway 169 and Park Boulevard in St. Lawrence Township Friday afternoon.

The crash occurred around 3 p.m. According to the Minnesota State Patrol, Caola, 19, was headed east on Park Boulevard in a 1999 Chevrolet. She pulled out on to Highway 169 and was hit by a 2006 Ford Expedition driven by Travis Englert of Rock Rapids, Iowa.

Englert, 42, was heading south on Highway 169. The SUV hit Caola’s sedan in the front-middle section, sending it rolling into the median between the north and southbound lanes. The Chevrolet was deemed a total loss. The SUV sustained moderate damage in the crash. Both drivers were wearing seat belts, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

A spokesperson for the hospital indicated Caola’s condition is improving.

On a Caring Bridge Web site, a family member posted, “They are moving Clarissa to a regular floor today. She is doing great asking questions. One of the doctors asked her what day of the week it is. She said Friday. When he told her it was Tuesday she got a little upset.”
