Belle Plaine’s Payton Smith and her parents, Sara and Matt, are the guests of honor at the annual Roman Barten Memorial Breakfast Sunday, March 26 (8-1 p.m.) at the New Prague KC Hall.
The breakfast is a community service project hosted by the Barten family and friends to help the Smith family with medical expenses and community support. Over 50 people will volunteer their time in service, said Fran Barten, the family’s matriarch.
Payton Smith was born just over a year ago with Dandy-Walker malformation, a condition in which part of her brain is missing. She has already endured open heart and brain surgeries.
The breakfast is a free-will donation. A fund in the Smith’s family name has been set up at State Bank of Belle Plaine.
