Le Sueur County Sheriff Dave Tietz recently announced his plans to retire after 31 years in law enforcement. He informed commissioners of his decision at a recent county board meeting.
To ensure a smooth transition, Tietz asked the county board to appoint Chief Deputy Brett Mason as his replacement, the Montgomery Messenger recently reported. Commissioners formally considered the proposal yesterday (March 7), after the Herald went to press.
Tietz is the son of a retired Scott County sheriff’s deputy. His career has been spent entirely in Le Sueur County. Sheriff Pat Smith hired him in 1986. His work has included investigations, road deputy and chief deputy. He was appointed to the sheriff’s position in 2013 when Tom Doherty retired. Tietz won election in 2014.
He decided to retire because his health is good and the time to move on has arrived.
