Le Sueur County commissioners recently named Brett Mason as the county’s interim sheriff in the wake of Sheriff David Tietz’s desire to retire mid-term.
Mason will take over the office April 29 and hold it with the interim tag until January of 2019. He will assume the Tietz’s salary of $110,689.57. Mason may choose to run for the office in November of 2018, the Montgomery Messenger recently reported.
Mason’s great grandfather and grandfather, Pat Smith Sr. and Pat Smith Jr. both served as Le Sueur County sheriffs. Commissioner Dave Glisczinski of New Prague hired Mason 13 years ago as a sheriff’s deputy when he served as county sheriff. Tietz selected Mason as his chief deputy in February of 2014.
