Without a police chief since last fall, the Arlington City Council recently OK’d a contract for temporary police services with Gaylord. The contract buys Arlington some time to determine how it wants to move forward with its police department.
But there’s a price tag for the move. Arlington is potentially overspending its police budget by $3,000 a month, the Arlington Enterprise recently reported.
Under the agreement, Gaylord Police Chief Tony Padilla will spend part of his week in Arlington, a move that will allow Arlington’s interim police chief to return to his regular patrol duties. Gaylord police officers will also be performing patrol service in Arlington during the day. Arlington patrol officers will police the city at night.
