Tony Valek, of Belle Plaine was named to the Fall 2009 Dean's List at Augsburg College. To qualify, a student must be full-time and earn a grade point average of 3.50 or higher. Tony is the son of Chuck and Monica Valek.

OBITUARIES
Shirley A. Wenz
Shirley Alma Wenz, 87, passed away on March 12, 2010 in Cannon Falls after bravely confronting various illnesses.
There will be a memorial service on Saturday, March 20 at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Kasson. Visitationwill be at 1 p.m. and the service will begin at 2 p.m. Dibble Funeral Home of Kasson is in charge of arrangements.
Shirley Alma Balzer was born in Elkton S.D. on September 30, 1922. She graduated from Elkton High School.
She married Robert Wenz on August 17. They settled in Kasson, MN from 1945 to 1975. She was the city of Kasson village clerk treasure from 1965-79 before moving to their home on Lake Byllesby near Cannon Falls. They moved to Branson, MO before returning to Kasson in 1995.
Shirley has a rich network of family and friends who have enjoyed her effervescing personality, her love of family, unwavering work ethic, and sensational cooking and baking productions. No one could make a better 4th of July grilled turkey, a more tasty Rice Krispy bar, and bendable chocolate chip cookies and ginger snaps that people would beg for.
She is survived by her children, Rob (Sharon) of Elburn, IL, Cheri Hanna of Chanhassen, and Jeffrey (Lonnie) of Bayfield, WI; and four grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Alfred and Willamina; husband, Robert; and brothers, Earl and Robert.

Esther M. Bullert
Esther Minnie Bullert, 89 of Arlington, passed away on Thursday, March 11, 2010 at the Golden Hearts Assisted Living in Arlington.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 15 at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Arlington. Rev. Bruce Hanneman officiated. Interment was in the St. Paul Ev. Church Cemetery. Visitation was from 4-7 p.m. on Sunday, March 14 at Kolden Funeral Home in Arlington and one hour prior to the services at the church on Monday.
She was born on June 20, 1920 in Green Isle Township, Sibley County to Henry and Louise (Schuth) Bluemke. She was baptized on July 11, 1920 in St. John’s Lutheran in Helen Township, McLeod County and confirmed on March 25, 1934 in Zion Lutheran in Green Isle Township.
She married Herbert F. Bullert on June 2, 1939 at Zion Lutheran in Green Isle Township. They farmed for many years in Green Isle Township.
She taught Thursday School and was an active member of the Ladies Aid at Zion Lutheran Church and St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Arlington. Several years after her husband's death in 1991 she moved to Arlington from the farm. She was a member of the Good Samaritan Auxiliary.
She enjoyed sewing, quilting, square dancing and her garden.
She is survived by her daughters, Nadine (Alvin) Gohlke of Belle Plaine and Gloria Robinson of Mankato; four grandchildren, Natalie Spalding, Owen (Tracy) Gohlke, Teresa Robinson and Brad Robinson; 12 great-grandchildren, Evan and Brodie Gohlke, Rebecca and Jacqueline Spalding, Laycon, Ashley and Rylin Robinson and Cole, Dayton, Dakota, Marschall and Haley Robinson; four step-grandchildren, Linda (Dennis) Hoehn, Dan (Autumn) Robinson, Peggy (Ben) Michael and Bruce (Cindy) Robinson; sisters, LaVerna (Arthur) Dahlke and Louise Schwirtz of Arlington and sister-in-law, Ruth Kamps of Arlington.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Herbert in 1991; son-in-law, Larry Robinson in 2000; brother, Ferdinand Bluemke; and sister, Sophie Schauer.
